Opening in October 2025, teamLab Biovortex marks a major new chapter for immersive art in Japan. As the largest permanent teamLab museum in the country, this expansive venue brings together art, technology, and human perception on an unprecedented scale. teamLab is a collective of artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects whose works transcend the boundaries of traditional art.
Active worldwide, the group is known for creating environments that invite visitors to physically enter and interact with art. With a total floor area of approximately 10,000 square meters spread across four floors, teamLab Biovortex offers an experience that fully surrounds the body and senses. More than 50 works—including brand-new creations and pieces never before shown in Japan—await visitors.
The journey begins on the Underground floor, where visitors are immediately transported into another world. In Continuous Life and Death, flowers bloom endlessly across the walls, accompanied by a gentle fragrance, while works such as the cooling Possessing Waterfall heighten the sense of immersion. Kyoto-inspired pieces are also featured, including Nirvana: Fleeting Flowers, which draws on the screen paintings of Edo-period Kyoto artist Ito Jakuchu.
The Sculpture and Painting floor introduces a Japan-first work: a “sculpture with no mass or form,” where soap bubbles float and transform freely in space. By the time visitors reach the Megaliths floor, reality itself begins to feel distant. The final zone, Athletics Forest, invites playful exploration—most notably Sketch Ocean, where drawings of sea creatures come to life, delighting visitors of all ages.
