Kikuichimonji Karasuma Store Reopened!
The Spirit of Kyoto, Newly Sharpened
Carrying more than 750 years of blade-making heritage, Kikuichimonji has reopened their Karasuma Branch on Shijo Street—bringing its centuries-old craftsmanship to the heart of modern Kyoto.
Founded by imperial swordsmiths in the 13th century, Kikuichimonji takes its name from the chrysanthemum (kiku) emblem once bestowed by the Emperor himself. After Japan’s samurai era ended, the artisans transformed their sword-forging mastery into the art of fine kitchen knives and precision tools.
To make the experience even more welcoming, the store’s staff speak English and Chinese fluently, offering personalized guidance to help customers find the ideal knife for their needs—whether for professional use, home cooking, or as a special gift. Kikuichimonji offers more than shopping—it’s a chance to hold a piece of Kyoto’s spirit, where timeless craftsmanship meets warm hospitality.
